Conventions
This is an image taken from the film Harry Brown.
We would like our youths to be dressed like this and when the man approaches them some grime music will start to play to show the manner of the gang.
This is an image taken from Silence of the Lambs.
When the man leaves the shop after doing his shopping we would like to track him till he arrives at the assault scene. This is one of the shots we will use when tracking him.
This is an image taken from the film Fighting.
Clearly not to this extent but we are going to trying to get a high shot of the man and the main thug surround by the rest of the gang a bit like this image here.
This is an image taken from The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift.
This is an over the shoulder shot. We will be using many of these but i think the most powerful one we will be using is in the last scene when the camera is doing an over the shoulder shot of the 40 year old mans shoulder whilst the camera is staring at the photos of the thugs on the wall.
Lighting
Our opening scene is going to be filmed in quite a dark light as you wont get that many groups of youths hanging about during the day drinking beer so we think it will make it much more realistic if we filmed it at late evening/night. But once our assault scene has taken place and it moves to the next scene which will be light so the camera can see all the photos of the youths clearly and see the credits come up. It shows the audience that the 40 year old man is going to get revenge.
Props
Shopping bag - It implies that the man is just a general man doing some shopping minding his own business.
Cigarettes and bottles of beer - Shows the audience that the youths are up to no good and breaking the law by drinking underage.
We might have a brick involved in our assault scene we haven't quite decided yet but if we do have one it will be there to give off the image that the youths are horrible people and the use of a weapon on the man will build up tension in our opening scene.
Photos - We will need many photos of each youth in different places and different shots of there faces as they will be pasted all over the 40 year olds man wall to show our audience that the man is going after them for revenge.

Costumes
The 40 year old man will be dressed reasonably smart to give the audience the impression that he is a slightly higher class business man.
The people around on the street will be dressed in average clothes to show the audience that it is set in just a normal village nothing really fancy but then again far from being a dump.
The youths will be dressed in trackies and hoddies to give everyone the idea that they aren't very nice people and they are slightly thugs ish.

Summary of our film
Our film is about a 40 year old man who encounters a gang on his way home from the shop whilst minding his own business. This causes many knock on effects which the gang will have to suffer in the future....
Harry Brown conventions
The opening scene is filmed by a camera phone to give the effect of urban youths, showing what the gang get up to and what sort of people they are. This helps to set the scene and the violent manners of this group. The first thing we see is the use of drugs within the gang. This furthers our earlier point of them disrupting the local area and surrounding people. The setting is in a dark underground walkway with graffiti all over the walls implying there thugs. The use of guns is obvious in the opening scene as they show their guns off with pride and power.
We then see a couple of the gang on a motorbike, they are in a very aggressive mood, they are shouting and screaming. They are terrorising the local area. We see them ride across a local green, here they ride up to a woman and a child, they begin to circle her and fire their gun at her, it appears they dont want to hit her, it seems that they are doing this to intimidate the local people but they then hit her in the upper body. In shock they ride off as quickly as they can, on their escape route they cross a road and are hit by a lorry. This event shocks us, which makes a very powerful opening and from this moment onwards you know that the film is going to be full of action and violence.

Sound
Music will be very important to set the scene, this is because it can be the make or break moment for creating the atmosphere.
Their will need to be music at the beginning, during the gang scene and while we see the credits.
Another important piece of sound that we need to consider is the dialogue that we will here during the opening scene. The only true piece of dialogue that we will need is when the man approaches the gang. The voices will be different as the man will be polite and well spoken, however the gang will speak in an urban and abusive way.

Props and Costumes for our film
40 year old man- Shopping bag with items in. The man will be dressed quite smartly with a nice approach to the society. Smart jeans and a nice jumper and coat or in a suit with a coat over the top.
Gang- Cigarettes, bottles of beer and maybe a brick. They will be dressed as chavs so they will be wearing trackies, hoodies and looking like thugs to give the impression that there not very nice people.
The mans room- Photos of the chavs all over the walls, we need to make the room make it look like a normal room just with loads of images of teenagers all over it.

Someone else's AS opening to there thriller film
I like the opening scene how it is filmed as it goes straight from the production companies name and advert straight into a black and white close up on the guys face showing his emotion of lose after losing someone.
I think when the girl is walking then stops to phone her mum is very poor as it doesn't look realistic at all just looks very rushed just to find that scene in also when the man starts to follow he just appears which also looks rather fake.
But i do like it how they blend her walking after seeing she is being followed how she walks disappears then walks again and disappears again and so on. It give another effect to the film to make it a little bit more interesting to watch.
Possible locations for filming
I went out this evening and took a few photos of some possible places where we are going to film the assault scene.
Gang Scene Music
At the moment we are looking at a number of pieces of music, mainly grime music.
We believe that this would be the best genre of music to use as it will show the true manner of the group, as well as this i think that this form of music can be intimidating to those that are from an older generation.

Our Preliminary task is on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv6fN6LgepE
Evaluation of our prlimiary tast
This task took us about a couple of hours to film and produce the final piece.
We found that the scene of the character walking through the door worked very well and was quite effective. On Final Cut Express we edited the timing of putting the characters hand on the door and coming out from the other side. We think that we got it perfectly timed.
The background of our video wasn't up to the professional standards that we wanted and expected. If we were doing the task again, we would make sure that we did it in a better location as ours this time was great. We would also make our film a little longer as we thought we cut it a bit short this time around.

Personal Progress Report
Ideas: I've had many ideas on what sort of plot we are going to do for our media coursework e.g. An assault on someone just after they had got off the train at night which would then move into a bit more of a crime thriller film. Another idea I've had is that a murder in a forest could take place just after all the credits had come up with a black background.
Thoughts: I thought that the assault just after getting off the train at night could work as it wouldn't be too hard to make it look realistic but you may have to apply to the national rail as its illegal to film at the train station. With the murder in the forest it could be very tricky to make the murder look effective as we dont have access to a whole film crew etc.
Progress: Our group is in the middle of producing our preliminary task which we should hopefully have filmed and edited it by the end of the week.
Things to learn: I need to learn how to use Final Cut a bit better as I'm not very good with it at the moment because we have only just started messing around with it. I need to get better a Photoshop as well as I'm not great at that either.

Road Train
Looking at these Average you can see how the under 18s have rated it very highly but then also if you look down the list the Females 45+ loved it. Remember this site is dominated by the male 18-29 population. But the rest of the categories were not a massive fan of the film Road Train.
Most review were not great at all as they were all rated 5 or below out and 10. Many of them slate the film saying 'Seriously! This movie could hardly be worse!' and many other phrases along those lines. So from people's reviews and ratings it doesn't sound like this film was a great success. Many people wrote in their reviews the the trailer made the film look very good but when it actually came down to the actual film it was very poor.
What I will take from this is that when creating a trailer it has to be very attracting but make sure the film can back it up in steady of having a brilliant trailer and a rubbish film.
